Each day you get three 60-second micro-tasks: a Word of the Day, a fill-in-the-blank quick question, and a Matura-style speaking prompt. The dataset covers 200 high-yield word-formation items across A2/B1 Középszint and B2/C1 Emelt szint levels, each with a Hungarian explanation for every answer. Mistakes are collected for review and can be added to your My Word Bank with one click. Teachers can also project the Word Formation Sprint widget inside JB MaturaScreen for whole-class warm-ups.

The Speaking Board Game is an interactive multiplayer game designed to make English speaking practice fun and engaging. Accessible from the Speaking section (look for the colourful banner at the top of the page), it features a clean grid board with 50 podcast-based speaking prompts drawn from English Matura with JB episodes. How to play: 1. Add your players — you can have up to 20 unique, colour-coded player pins. 2. Each turn, the current player clicks the animated dice (which rolls 1–6) to move around the board loop. 3. When you land on a question tile, a modal pops up with a speaking prompt. Click 'Show Explanation Card' to read the background from the corresponding podcast episode — perfect if you need inspiration or context before answering. 4. Answer the question aloud (this is speaking practice, after all!), then close the modal. 5. The first player to reach the Finish tile wins and triggers a celebratory confetti animation. Bounce rule: If you are close to Finish and roll a number that would overshoot it, you bounce back the extra steps — so you must land exactly on Finish to win. All game state is handled entirely in your browser, so no internet connection is required once the page is loaded. It is ideal for classroom use, study circles, or practising with friends.

Unique-completion bonus – you earn +2 points for each unique challenge you complete, rewarding breadth. 3. First-attempt bonus – if you score a perfect 10/10, you earn a bonus based on which attempt it was: • 1st attempt perfect → +6 pts • 2nd attempt perfect → +3 pts • 3rd attempt perfect → +1 pt • 4th attempt or later → +0 pts Only your first 5 attempts per challenge count for bonus calculations. In the event of a tie, the player with more first-attempt perfects (⚡) ranks higher. Example: Best score 9 + unique bonus 2 + first-attempt bonus 3 = 14 pts total.

What is the Matura Trap of the Day (Napi Magyar Csapda) and where does the data come from?

The Matura Trap of the Day is an interactive card on the Homepage that surfaces one high-yield exam pitfall each day from our Hungarian English Matura Trap Master Guide. We compiled 100 curated traps by harvesting the most frequent Hunglish interference errors and exam-specific task types from past Nyelvhelyesség exam papers and official evaluation guides on oktatas.hu, spanning both A2/B1 Középszint and B2/C1 Emelt szint. Each trap is formatted with an incorrect Hunglish sentence (❌), the correct English form (✅), a Hungarian explanation of why it trips up Hungarian native speakers (💡), and an interactive quiz prompt with answer key (🎯). The traps are organised into four categories: False Friends (e.g. eventual vs. esetleges, actually vs. jelenleg), Prepositional Traps (e.g. depend of → depend on, agree with vs. agree to), Confusing Verb Pairs (e.g. learn vs. teach, make vs. do, win vs. gain), and Grammar & Syntax. Answer correctly to earn +5 engagement points, hear the correct sentence read aloud, and save any trap to your My Word Bank. A Matura Trap widget is also available inside JB MaturaScreen for classroom use.

model variations

Why are Model Variations important for the Matura exam?

The Matura exam tests your ability to rephrase, transform, and combine sentences — especially in the Use of English and Writing sections. Understanding model variations helps you: (1) rewrite sentences without changing meaning, (2) use varied sentence structures in essays and compositions, (3) shift between active and passive voice, (4) form conditionals and reported speech correctly, and (5) build complex sentences with subordinate clauses. All of these are explicitly assessed in the Matura.

Unread alerts are highlighted and a red badge shows the count of new notifications. From the panel you can: • Click a notification to mark it as read • Use 'Mark all read' to clear all unread alerts at once • Dismiss individual notifications with the ✕ button

learning decks

How do reps work for long-form tasks?

For quick tasks (like flashcards) the card's value is the number of reps. For long-form tasks that don't make sense to repeat many times — such as listening to a full podcast episode, watching a podcast clip, or reading a blog article — the first rep is the main activity and the remaining reps become short YouTube Shorts or TikTok videos. So a 7 of Clubs for "Watch a podcast clip" means: watch 1 clip + 6 short videos. Some tasks (like Role Play or summarising an episode) are capped at 2 reps regardless of the card value.

topic quests

Yes, you can retry any challenge as many times as you like. Only your best score per challenge counts toward the leaderboard, so retrying can improve your rank if you beat your previous result. However, the first-attempt bonus (+6/+3/+1 for a perfect score) rewards fast mastery — the earlier you achieve a perfect score, the more bonus points you earn. Attempts beyond the 5th do not contribute bonus points, but practice is always worthwhile for learning!

topic quests

How do I complete a Quest step?

Click on any unlocked step node on your Journey Path. A panel will appear at the bottom showing two tasks: (1) Listen to the episode, and (2) Complete the linked interactive exercises (if assigned). Once you're done, click 'Mark Step as Complete' to advance.

general

What are the boxes on the right-hand side of an Episode page?

When you open any episode, you'll find a set of handy panels on the right-hand side. Here's what each one does: 📊 Your Progress Track how far you've got with the episode. Set your status (Not Started / In Progress / Completed) and give the episode a star rating (1–5). Your progress is saved automatically. 🎯 Learning Path Links you to the Learning Paths page, where you can follow a structured sequence of episodes and activities designed to build your skills step by step. 📝 My Notes A private notepad for this episode — only you can see it. Click the pencil icon to write study notes, vocabulary reminders, or anything else you want to remember. Take it directly here without leaving the page. Your result is saved to the Challenges leaderboard.

choice boards

Are the answer keys shown to students?

No. Correct answers, sample answers and teacher notes are kept teacher-only and are never displayed on the public board. Students see the task instructions, question prompts and any supplementary resource links — the thinking and the answers are yours to produce.

challenges

Can I take a quiz without appearing on the leaderboard?

Yes! Practice Mode lets you complete any episode quiz privately, without your results being saved to the leaderboard. This is perfect when you want to test your comprehension of an episode without affecting your competitive score. To enable it, open any Episode Detail page and click the 'Practice Mode' toggle above the quiz under 'Interactive Exercises'. When active, a purple label confirms that your results won't be recorded. In Practice Mode: • Your result is saved with a practice flag and does NOT appear on the leaderboard • Your practice attempts do NOT count toward your displayed best score You can turn Practice Mode off at any time to return to normal competitive mode. The Challenges page is now purely competitive — all results there count toward the leaderboard.

gamification

Is the Engagement Rank the same as the Daily Matura Minute belt?

No. The Daily Matura Minute has its own separate milestone belt that tracks your daily speaking habit. The site-wide Engagement Rank is a broader system that counts all your activity across the platform — including the Daily Matura Minute, which feeds 50 points per day into your engagement total. Both belts appear on your dashboard, but the Engagement Rank is the one that rewards you with shop discount codes.

matura preparation

Do I have to complete the Daily Matura Minute every day to keep my belt?

No — your belt rank never goes down. It is based on your all-time total completions, so once you earn a belt it is yours to keep. However, your daily streak (shown with a flame icon) does reset if you miss a day, so completing the Daily Matura Minute each day helps you build both your streak and your belt progress at the same time.

How is the Circle Leaderboard score calculated?

The Circle Leaderboard uses a unified points system that combines all your learning activity into a single score. Topic Quests are weighted the highest because they are the most demanding tasks. All Activity score (combined): 🗺️ Topic Quests — 300 pts per completed quest + 10 pts per active streak day 📖 Learning Paths — 100 pts per completed path ⚡ Quizzes — 1 pt per quiz score point You can also view individual tabs to rank by a single activity type: • Topic Quests tab — quest completions × 300 + streak days × 10 • Learning Paths tab — number of completed paths × 100 • Quizzes tab — cumulative raw quiz scores This scoring ensures that students who consistently complete challenging quests and maintain streaks are fairly recognised at the top of the leaderboard.

model variations

Do the examples come in both English and Hungarian?

Yes. Every variation entry in the Model Variations section includes three example sentences, each shown in English with a Hungarian translation and a usage note explaining the grammar context. This bilingual approach helps Hungarian-speaking students see exactly how each structure maps between the two languages.

What happens on my birthday?

If you add your birthday to your profile, the site celebrates your special day in two ways: 1. Confetti surprise — When you log in on your birthday, you'll see a burst of confetti to mark the occasion. This happens once per day, so it won't repeat every time you navigate between pages. 2. Community highlight — Your profile card in the Community page is moved to the top and highlighted with a festive 'Birthday today!' badge so other members can wish you well. Only the month and day of your birthday are used for the celebration — the year you entered is never displayed publicly. You can add or update your birthday at any time from 'Edit My Profile' on the Community page.

matura ai_toolkit

How do I get the best results from the toolkit?

Start by setting the target proficiency level before generating, so the difficulty stays consistent. If a first draft is not quite right, regenerate with a refined prompt rather than editing by hand. You can also pair tools together, for example using the Vocabulary Builder to seed a Reading Comprehension task, or the Writing Prompt Generator alongside the Writing Evaluator for a complete writing cycle. The toolkit is designed to remove repetitive production work, freeing you to focus on feedback and classroom interaction.

What is the Activity Streak Calendar?

The Activity Streak Calendar, found on your My Progress dashboard, gives you a visual overview of every day you've been active on the platform. 🔥 How it works Any day you complete an activity — finishing an episode, doing a vocabulary review, taking a quiz, submitting a challenge, completing a grammar exercise, or saving a new word — counts as an active day and is marked with a green ✓ on the calendar. 📅 What you'll see • Green ✓ = Active day (you did something that day) • Red ✕ = Inactive day (no activity recorded) • Ring highlight = Today 🔥 Streak counter Your current streak shows how many consecutive days in a row you've been active. Your best-ever streak is also displayed so you can try to beat it! 🗓️ Navigation Use the left/right arrows to browse previous months and review your historical activity. The total number of active days is shown at the bottom of the calendar. Tip: Even one small activity per day — like saving a new word or reviewing flashcards — keeps your streak alive!

model variations

Can I practise Model Variations interactively?

Yes — and it's now far more user-friendly than the earlier Google AI Studio prototype. Start with the Demonstration tab: it walks you through 20 pre-built transformations of the sentence 'He checks his emails every day,' lighting up the relevant table cells for each one so you can see how the operations map — no AI needed. When you're ready, switch to Practice Mode, choose a base sentence (or type your own), tap the transformation fields you want to apply, and hit Transform — the AI returns the correctly transformed sentence with a short explanation, perfect for classroom drills and independent study.

teachers

What are Projects and who can access them?

Projects are ready-made WebQuest PDF materials that teachers can download and use in their lessons. Access is restricted to: • Admin users • Verified teachers • Study Circle leaders If you are a student and want access, ask your teacher to create a Study Circle and add you as a member — circle leaders can then share project files directly within the circle's Resources tab.

worksheets

How are the Interactive Podcast Worksheets different from the regular Worksheets?

The regular Worksheets (available in the Worksheets section) are downloadable PDF materials that include glossaries, fill-in-the-gap exercises, transcripts, comprehension questions, synonym matching, discussion questions, and essay prompts. Interactive Podcast Worksheets (IPW) are a separate premium-only feature. Instead of downloadable PDFs, they provide an interactive, in-browser experience featuring curated flashcard decks of 20 new words per episode, designed specifically to accompany the video overviews. They're meant for quick, engaging vocabulary practice rather than comprehensive written exercises.

choice boards

What supplementary resources come with each Choice Board?

Every episode links to the same three standard resources: Key Vocabulary (curated word lists for the Matura), the matching Worksheet from our Worksheets section, and the Videos & Presentations related to that podcast episode. These give you extra listening, reading and writing support alongside the task cards.

model variations

What's new in the rebuilt Model Variation Table?

The tool was rebuilt to be significantly more user-friendly than the previous Google AI Studio version. Key improvements: (1) it's fully integrated into the app — no external site or separate window; (2) a clear three-tab layout separates Reference, Practice, and Demonstration so you always know where you are; (3) the new Demonstration mode gives instant, AI-free walkthroughs so beginners can explore before generating anything; (4) Practice Mode lets you stack multiple transformations at once and highlights the selected fields; (5) the Reference Table now covers all 12 English tenses with click-to-expand grammar notes and bilingual examples; and (6) the whole experience is gated cleanly to Starter, Plus, and Mentor Vault members.

What is the Episode Playlist Database?

The Episode Playlist Database is a searchable list of every available podcast episode, synced directly with the Libsyn Podcast Player so the two always show the same content. Each entry contains just the episode title and a brief description — no video links or extra clutter. 🔍 How to use it Open the 'All Episodes & Quizzes' page and scroll to the Episode Playlist section. Use the search box to filter episodes by title or keyword. The list is ordered newest-first, and you can read the short description under each title to decide what to listen to next. 🎧 Always in sync The database is kept up to date with the Libsyn feed, so whenever a new episode is published it appears in the player and in the list at the same time. Episode order is automatically refreshed to keep the newest episodes at the top. Note: The list is a discovery and reference tool — to actually play an episode, use the Podcast Player above the table.

choice boards

Do I need a paid membership to use the Choice Boards?

Yes. The Choice Boards are a premium feature available exclusively to Plus and Mentor Vault members. Free users can browse the episode list, but opening a Choice Board and working through its task cards requires an active Plus or Mentor subscription. You can upgrade anytime from the Premium page.

projects

How do Study Circles use the project-tracking tool and video conferencing?

Each Study Circle has its own task board where the leader and members can create tasks, assign them to specific people, set due dates, and move them through To Do → In Progress → Done stages. For video conferences, you can save a meeting link (Google Meet, Zoom, or any other platform) directly in your circle settings and schedule a date and time for your next session. All members can see the upcoming meeting details at a glance. This makes it easy to coordinate discussions around a specific podcast episode or to hold a project check-in.

domino

What is the Domino game and how do I play it?

Domino is a vocabulary game built from real Matura vocabulary. Every board is made of tiles, each carrying two letters. You tap tiles to chain them into words, using single letters, pairs or whole tiles, until you have found the words hidden on the board. Each board is generated from exam vocabulary at your level (B1 Intermediate or B2 Upper-Intermediate), so every word you build is a word you can meet in the exam. Longer words score more, overlapping words earn a bonus, and the ⭐ key vocabulary of the topic is worth the most. Find all the theme words and you also collect the theme bonus. There are four ways to play: Daily Domino (a new board every day), Podcast Episode Revision (the key vocabulary of one JB episode), Matura Topic Practice (a topic and level you choose), and My Word Bank Practice (your own saved words).

domino

Is the Domino game free?

Domino is free to start. Free accounts and visitors can play: - the Daily Domino, one new board every day, - one featured episode board, so you can try podcast episode revision, - 3 Hungarian 🇭🇺 hints per board, - and every Domino mission inside the free Matura Escape Rooms. With a Tier 1 membership or above (Starter, Plus, Mentor), plus admins and teachers, all four modes open up with no daily limit, hints become unlimited, and you get the Daily Archive, where you can replay any previous daily board. Locked modes are marked with a 🔒 Tier 1 badge — tap one to see what your membership unlocks.

domino

How do the Hungarian hints work in Domino?

Every word on the board has a three-step Hungarian hint ladder. Tap Hint once to see the 🇭🇺 translation, again to reveal the first tile of the word, and a third time to read the English definition while the tiles you need light up on the board. On a free board you can use 3 hints per board, and the counter in the Word slots panel shows how many you have left. Tier 1 members, admins and teachers have unlimited hints.

domino

Are Domino words saved, and where else is Domino used?

Yes. Words you find on a board can be saved straight into My Word Bank, and whatever you save becomes a board of its own in My Word Bank Practice, so difficult words keep coming back until you know them. Domino is also one of the puzzle types inside the Matura Escape Rooms: students rebuild a word or phrase from the episode vocabulary to collect the next fragment of the final passcode. Teachers can run the same board for a whole class on the projector with the JB Matura Screen.

speaking

What is the Snakes and Ladders speaking game and how does it work?

The Snakes and Ladders game is an interactive, classroom-ready speaking activity for B1–B2 students, accessible from the Speaking page. Up to 20 players each get a coloured pin and take turns rolling a dice to move around a 30-tile board. The genius is in the mechanics: ladders (upward movement) represent positive themes, good decisions, and heroism from the podcast episodes, while snakes (downward movement) represent bad decisions, traps, and negative psychological concepts. When you land on a tile, a speaking prompt pops up — answer it aloud to secure your spot, climb a ladder, or face a snake. First to reach the Finish (tile 30) wins!

speaking

What happens when I land on a Ladder field or a Snake field?

Ladder fields (green, marked with an up-arrow and the destination tile number) are all about success: leadership, determination, empathy, SMART goals, and second winds. Answer the prompt to climb up to the tile shown above the arrow. Snake fields (red, marked with a down-arrow and the destination tile number) represent setbacks like the Diderot Effect, gaslighting, all-nighters, or blind obedience. You slide down to the tail tile — BUT every snake comes with a Rescue Task: answer it correctly and you stop halfway down instead of falling all the way. Each themed tile also has an Explanation Pack you can reveal to learn the vocabulary and podcast background before you speak.

speaking

How can teachers use the Snakes and Ladders game in class?

Teachers can use it as a low-stakes speaking warm-up or a full lesson activity. Add up to 20 players (great for whole-class or small groups), name the pins, and let students take turns. Standard tiles cover Matura-style role-plays, vocabulary, idioms, and culture trivia, so it doubles as exam prep. Encourage students to read the Explanation Pack aloud before answering to build pronunciation and comprehension. The rescue-task mechanic keeps weaker students in the game and lowers the 'affective filter' — the anxiety that blocks speaking — because everyone is focused on the dice, not on perfect grammar.
